Bernard Matthews
General Policy Statement: Bernard Matthews operates a 'Nut Free' Site Policy. All ingredients, packaging, raw materials and lubricating oils used in the manufacture of our products are from 'Peanut, Nut and Sesame Free' Sources.
Employees associated with operations, which bring them into contact with food manufacturing or ingredient and packaging storage areas, are not permitted to bring nuts onto the site.
The food and ingredients used within the canteen for sale to employees are sourced from 'Nut Free' ingredients.
Nuts of any kind, whether separate or part of another product, may not be sold on site either via the canteen or vending machines. This includes confectionery bars.
Foods and goods from Company Shops on site must not contain Peanuts, Nuts or Sesame seeds.
In the unlikely event that we have to accept materials that 'may contain' peanuts, tree nuts and sesame seeds and derivatives the product will contain a clear indication that the product 'May contain….Nuts/Sesame seeds'
Comments: A rigorous operation to keep foods nut-free and a very sensible approach
Cereal Partners UK (Nestle and General Mills)
General Policy Statement: None of our cereals are classified as totally 'nut free', which means they do not appear on any of the major retailers 'nut free' lists. This is because we believe that the inherent risks in producing products within plants that manufacture nut products, and have suppliers who produce nut products, may lead to an extremely small possibility that a contamination can occur.
There will be a range of cereals where the risk of nut contamination is slightly more significant and these carry a "May contain nut traces" warning on the pack, just below the ingredient list. Those cereals manufactured in a facility where the probability is very small, the statement "Manufactured in a facility that processes nuts" will be made.
Comments: A very restrictive policy considering 'the extremely small possibility' of contamination.
Cadbury
General Policy Statement: A number of Cadbury products that do not contain nuts in their recipe are manufactured on production lines that produce products that contain nuts. Even though machinery is flushed and cleaned meticulously after nut products are produced, and the risk of cross contamination is extremely small it is nevertheless a possibility we cannot ignore. Therefore as a caring company and one that realises the trust consumers have in Cadbury and our products, our policy is to declare on wrappers products that actually contain nuts, or nut traces.
For those who are sensitive to nuts, we provide a list of our products that are made on dedicated nut free production lines.
Nut Free List Supplied: Yes
Comments: Choice is often quite limited with Cadbury, but some of the old favourites remain nut-free. It's a shame they can't produce a solid chocolate bar for use in cooking that's nut-free. Good information on the website for people with multiple allergies.
HP Foods Limited
General Policy Statement: HP Foods Ltd are pleased to announce that all of our UK manufacturing sites are nut free sites.
Any imported products comply with UK legislation advising consumers as required.
Comments: Good news.

Heinz
General Policy Statement: Where possible we avoid using peanuts and nuts at our manufacturing sites. Where this is not possible, Heinz does everything in its power to ensure that the risk of nut and peanut contamination is kept to an absolute minimum. We have policies and procedures to ensure that the risk of cross contamination or the unintentional addition of nuts to our products, is strictly controlled.
Unfortunately there is always the potential for cross contamination with raw material suppliers, therefore we cannot guarantee 100 percent that the products are nut free and that is why we have elected not to make a nut free claim on the packaging.
We work very closely with all our ingredient suppliers to ensure that they put the appropriate procedures in place to ensure the safety of the raw material ingredients which they supply to us.
If we do use nuts in any of our ingredients, they will be clearly labelled in the list of ingredients.
Comments: A sensible policy.

Kelloggs
General Policy Statement: Kelloggs operates a robust total quality management system, which includes easures to control nut ingredients in our manufacturing facilities.
All our foods that contain peanuts, tree nuts or their derivatives as ingredients are clearly indicated on the pack in the ingredient declaration.
On Kelloggs Frosties, we will continue to label 'may contain traces of peanut' as this is the one food we make which shares process lines with other food containing peanuts. All other nut warnings will be removed from other brands, unless they contain nuts. This will help consumers when they choose our foods. Previously, we had different labelling depending on where the food was made or sold.
For products where we do not include any reference to nut ingredients, we do not claim that these products are nut free. To the best of our knowledge, we believe there should be no presence of nuts in these foods.
Nut Free List Supplied: Yes
Comments: A sensible policy allowing the consumer choice.

Weetabix
General Policy Statement: We are committed to the production of safe food and operate strict systems of control based on HACCP principles.
We recognise the potential risk food allergy poses to a growing number of people and have adopted a product-labelling format which clearly identifies EU legally defined allergens, allowing our consumers to make an informed choice.
Nut Free List Supplied: Yes, 11 cereals nut free
Comments: Although choice is limited Weetabix do try to cater for nut-allergic consumers and their customer care is great. On enquiring about their nut policy we received a £1 voucher towards the cost of Weetabix cereals and they do regular updates.
